Engagement Photo Poses That Feel Effortless, Authentic, & Natural

If you’re recently engaged and starting to plan an engagement photoshoot, you’re in the right place! Planning photos that feel candid and natural can be tough, especially if you don’t love being in front of the camera. As an engagement and wedding photographer for many years, I’ve got all the tips for engagement photo poses that feel effortless and exactly like you. Let’s dive in!

Bride to be turning a page of the Bible.

Choose Activities & Locations That Feel Natural

My favorite tip is to plan something you would normally do for your engagement session, like a romantic date or fun activity that reflects who you are as a couple. Abbey and Ryan chose to have a simple picnic with champagne and Bible reading. I love how these photos turned out and how they included their faith in their session! And when it comes to choosing a location for your photoshoot, choose somewhere that feels natural and reflects the vibe you envision. A gorgeous backdrop speaks for itself and provides unique opportunities for photos.

Engagement Photo Poses With Props

Another great way to add personality to your pictures is to include props! Props also give you something to do with your hands if you tend to feel awkward when photographed. Once again, popping champagne is always a good idea for engagement photo poses. (We’re celebrating after all, aren’t we?) I’m obsessed with Leah and Logan’s engagement photos during golden hour at the White Cliffs of Conoy! Their smiles were so genuine, which made for the most stunning photos. Other fun props are holding a flower bouquet or taking pictures of each other with a camera. Think about what reflects you as a couple and will add a little extra fun to your session!

The Best Engagement Photo Poses

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but be yourself! I can’t express enough how essential this is for capturing those heartfelt and intimate moments. Pretend I’m not even there. I know it’s easier said than done, but seriously – playfully hug and spin around, kiss passionately, and have eyes only for each other, and there’s no doubt your photos will turn out amazing! You can research the best engagement photo poses all day long, but your favorites will always be the photos where you’re completely yourself and focused on the love of your life.
